An Even Better Deal on NOOK Tablets and e-Readers — Get a $20 Gift Card from Barnes and Noble

Now you can get a free $20 Barnes and Noble gift card when you purchase any NOOK Tablet or E-reader

I wrote previously about what is probably the best deal on electronics this year:  the significant discount that Barnes and Noble is offering on the high-def NOOK HD and NOOK HD+ media tablets.  That sale is still ongoing.  You can get the 7-inch NOOK HD for just $129 ($70 off) and the 9-inch NOOK HD+ for $149 ($120 off).

While that deal was attractive enough to make buying a NOOK tablet a no-brainer, on top of that Barnes & Noble is now offering all of them for the sale price PLUS you get a $20 Barnes and Noble gift card with the purchase of a Nook HD+, Nook HD, NOOK Simple Touch with GlowLight, or NOOK Simple Touch.

This deal is for a limited time, however, and is good only until September 2.  Click here to see complete details (and to jump on it).

It’s the equivalent of offering these top-rated reading/entertainment/gaming/Internet devices for a further 15 – 20% discount.

Since Barnes & Noble has revealed that they are going to be getting out of the high-definition color tablet business and concentrate on producing e-readers, you might wonder whether it’s still a good idea to buy a NOOK HD or NOOK HD+.

I like Rick Broida’s take on this question.  The basic answer of this CNET author is “Heck, yes!”

Advantages of NOOK devices

For one thing, all of the NOOK devices — tablets and e-readers — are recommended buys by Consumer Reports, CNET, The New York Times, and other professional testers.  They are high-quality, thoughtfully-designed pieces of hardware.  And now that Google Play content has been added to the NOOK HD and NOOK HD+, these tablets have become even more versatile.

As Rick points out in his article, you can root the NOOK tablets to enable them to run a “purer” version of Android and thus use them for a greater variety of apps.  You don’t have to worry about any limitations on usefulness of these tablets going forward and content will always be available.

Bottom line:  the NOOK HD+ Tablet at $149 along with a free $20 Barnes & Noble gift card is a steal.  The effective price becomes $129.  Try finding another deal like that on any highly-rated tablet.

But again, it only lasts until September 2.

You can also take advantage of this offer when you buy one of Barnes & Noble’s NOOK e-Readers.  The NOOK Simple Touch (currently priced at $79) or a NOOK Simple Touch with GlowLight (priced at $99) are also part of the $20 gift card deal.  With the additional $20 incentive, that also makes these top-rated e-Readers a steal.

And there’s still that good karma thing when it comes to buying from Barnes & Noble.
